Newport Sloop Model Sail Boat with Exquisite Design

This boat invites one to tell the story of how it was found at the Marché Biro, avenue Michelet in Paris. It was the deep distressed black, white and red patina that attracted instantly. And the fact that the old gentleman confided that it was purchased only recently at Drouot, the one auction house in Paris. Better catch your breath; you might get carried away since it still has its AM bronze name plaque in place somewhere… Astounding in its very own way.

The Age of Sail made exploration possible. It opened the world to trade and cultural exchange. Models were made as votives for the port chapel or as shipyard models to impress the Admiralty Lords. Or possibly just as an exquisite creation by a gifted model maker for a friend or patron.
