Many furniture manufacturers use an inner-spring design for their sofa sleeper mattresses that allows for a maximum of only 1 inch of foam padding per side to be used over a 3 inch spring unit. OUCH! This doesn't provide much comfort or support for the person sleeping on the bed. WE use a solid 4 inch polyurethane foam core in our construction which eliminates that uncomfortable and ouchy "spring" feel as well as achieving proper support for the sleeper. We then cover the mattress in a Chintz fabric (which will vary some in color from the photo). The Chintz fabric is quilted to a 1/2" soft foam on either side of the sleeper mattress, making the mattress 5" thick total. The mattress is flippable so if your sleeper sofa gets a lot of use, you can help protect your mattress by turning it over and rotating it head to toe.

In addition there are strong nylon attachments on all four corners of the sleeper sofa mattress to secure it to the sofa bed frame.
