This panorama of University of Nevada, Las Vegas - Thomas & Mack Center, photographed by James Blakeway, features the UNLV Runnin' Rebels basketball team playing Mountain West Conference rival University of Utah. The 18,500-seat multipurpose events center opened in 1983 and is home to the Runnin' Rebels basketball and volleyball teams. UNLV has compiled an amazing home-court record that includes a 59-game win streak. The facility is named after E. Parry Thomas and the late Jerome Mack, who together donated $1 million to the construction of the Thomas & Mack Center. UNLV was established in 1951 and adopted its current name in 1969. Today, UNLV has more than 1,000 full-time faculty and over 28,000 students.
