West Virginia University Milan Puskar Stadium Picture 3
This panorama, taken by Christopher Gjevre, captures the West Virginia Mountaineers making their Big 12 debut against the Baylor Bears. Mountaineer fans marked the event with the first-ever “Stripe the Stadium” promotion and wore either gold or blue, based on where they were sitting in the stadium. In addition to the Mountaineers’ success on the field, Homecoming festivities added to the jubilation in Morgantown. The first football homecoming celebrations date back to 1921, with the first Homecoming queen crowned in 1939. The West Virginia Mountaineers play football at Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium, which opened in 1980 and seats 60,000 fans.
